As a general partner, Hurst Lin brings a wealth of business and cultural insight and co-leads the firm’s expansion of investment activities in Asia. A co-founder of China’s largest online portal, Hurst has a history of successfully acquiring Chinese IT start-ups, operating and taking a company public and then building it into a billion-dollar business.
Prior to joining DCM, Hurst was COO of SINA Corporation (Nasdaq: SINA), the first Chinese Internet company to successfully list on the Nasdaq. He co-founded Sina.com’s precursor company, SinaNet, in 1995 and later guided the company through a $78-million IPO and the ensuing dot-com decline to eventually create a billion-dollar operation. Hurst oversaw SINA’s global business development and mergers and acquisitions and was heavily involved in the company’s day-to-day operations as well as major corporate transactions and pre-IPO funding.
Previously, Hurst served as a consultant at Ernst & Young Management Consulting Group, where he focused on marketing and operations in telecommunications and technology companies. He also held marketing, engineering and management positions at Octel Communication Inc. and NYNEX. Hurst serves on the board of directors of SINA.
Hurst was born in Taiwan and raised in New York City.
