As a Partner, Gen Isayama brings years of start-up and finance experience to his role in identifying new investment opportunities for the firm both in the U.S. and Asia. Gen focuses on investments in the consumer internet/digital media, mobile applications, wireless technologies and non-tech areas. Gen also helps lead DCM’s Asia practice, primarily in Japan, by identifying investment capabilities and assisting DCM’s portfolio companies’ with business development.

Prior to joining DCM, Gen worked at Mizuho Financial Group, formerly the Industrial Bank of Japan and has extensive experience in a wide variety of areas including corporate finance, structured finance, derivative trading and market risk management.

Entrepreneurial by nature, Gen co-founded Arch Pacific, a web design consultancy, while he was a student at Tokyo University. In addition, he served as an advisor for San Francisco based start-up, Amikai, an ASP of real-time language translation solutions, helping establish a business base in Japan. Gen is active in the entrepreneurial community and currently serves as a judge for the Stanford Business Plan competition, E-Challenge, organized by the Business Association of Stanford Engineering Students (BASES). He also is a lecturer at Kyushu University.

Born in Japan, Gen grew up in both Tokyo and New York.  He divides his time between Menlo Park, California, and Tokyo, with his wife and children.
